“This is Halloween” from the Nightmare Before Christmas
Happy Halloween!
If you’re celebrating Halloween, have fun and be careful–especially those of you with little trick-or-treaters. Even if you don’t have kids, and plan to go out and enjoy some fright-filled festivities, please party responsibly. Safety first!
A few tidbits to share before the Dial Mill escapade, and as promised, see creepy doll head above:
1. I welcome creative guest posts, as I’ve mentioned before, but I’ve decided to relax some of the current limitations. My blog has a good bit of travel, but it’s not the true definition of a travel blog. I’m all over the place with photography, writing, travel and reflection, so guest posts can be more flexible. Anything that pertains to travel, writing, creativity, blogging, social media, photography or personal reflection will be fine.
2. This Halloween is an unqualified success! My daughter loved her costume, and I loved taking her trick-or-treating to get “us” candy. When I awoke this morning, I was sleeping next to a gummie bear, so it must have been a pretty wild night… I’ve decided to take Ivy trick-or-treating again tonight in other neighborhoods opting to trick-or-treat today, because she loved it so much last night. Double the fun, double the memories, right?
3. If you’re here from the Halloween Hop, welcome! Be assured I will be returning every single thoughtful comment you make here. Now, onto the answers: I dislike all things in the horror genre, because I’m a wuss. However, it hasn’t stopped me from indirectly being exposed to scary things…
The scariest book I remember reading: IT, by Stephen King. After I finished, I never took a shower or used the bathroom again without first checking the drains. If you remember this book, you know exactly why. I also don’t have a costume this year, and the only excuse? I’m lame. Maybe next year…
Now on to the Dial Mill adventure!
The creepiest part of my weekend travel excursion was visiting the abandoned Dial Mill in Conyers, Georgia. After Angie and I left the Yellow River Dam, we headed over to check out the old Dial Mill grist mill, but not without some trepidation. If you’ve read that post, you know I was already spooked from tales of abandoned bodies in the water, so the idea of traipsing around in the woods in an area known for “paranormal activity” didn’t exactly thrill me.
Curiosity prevailed, however. Not only did we explore Dial Mill and the creepy wooded area around it, I also took time for photos. Enjoy
What is the scariest, Halloweenish place you’ve seen? Have you ever been to an old grist mill like Dial Mill in Conyers? Tell me in the comments.

Ugh, you're killing me with the abandoned cars and trucks! To a car geek, those are diamonds in the rough!! Drag them out, a little elbow grease and you're good to go! I love perusing old places like that especially if there's ornate architectural features. Who owns the Dial Mill? Is it state owned or just a "tour at your own risk" piece of property.
You may say you don't like horror, but I have a sneaking suspicion…
Greetings fellow Halloween Hopper! Saw you stopped by my blog and wanted to return the favor. You have some great photography. And the Dial Mill (hey, my name is pretty close to that) looks like a great setting for a scary movie. And yes, the pictures of that dam are misleading. Looks beautiful, but your description brings out the hidden horrors. Anyway, best of luck with NaNoWriMo. And Happy Halloween.Paul D. Happy Halloween Blog Hop, Amberr!Really enjoying your blog! Love the photos above…creepy, but also sad. Poor abandoned cars and building! The scariest Halloweenish place I've been to is the Jack The Ripper Walking Tour in London. Bizarre and creepy!! Wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog and glad you enjoyed. http://intricateknot.blogspot.com/Fav scary book: The Shining (still makes me shiver!) Fav costume: a witch (what else?) Fav horror film: The Fog (yikes :0)
That doll's head gave me the willies. And I had my willies removed after our second kid.Okay, just kidding. I still have my willies. It's just they don't work anymore. My willies, I mean.Oh, God, I'm getting all twisted around. It's that damn doll's head.
I kept reading. That mill is one creepy place. No wonder there's a disembodied doll's head hanging around there.
Okay, last comment, I promise. Scariest, Halloweeniest place I've ever been: the allegedly haunted Phelps mansion in Stratford, Connecticut. It's long since been demolished (the mansion, not Stratford).Oh, the Revolutionary War cemetery in Stratford was pretty spooky, too.
Happy Halloween Hop! Thanks for visiting my blog. I enjoyed perusing your site. The movie that scared me the most as a lid was Invasion of the Body Snatchers (remake w/Donald Sutherland.)Take care,Jack
I'm from the Keys and when I was a teen we visited Coconut Grove every year to see the woman with the coffin in her living room. There was supposedly a dead body in the coffin. Sure it was all made up. (I think). But we teens sure believed the story and went every year. Loved reading about that mill.Thank you for the visit and comment over at my place. Not doing NaNo this year. Stuck in revision land. Happy Halloween. *waving*
Hi! Thanks for hopping by my blog! I'm so glad you did and glad I get to find yours now! This is phenomenal, and I am impressed with your bravery of exploring the scary mill! So cool, yet so creepy. I always creep myself out with stuff like this, but I love the pictures you got. I suck this year too, because I didn't dress up. I love dressing up my kids though and one year I will dress up my husband and myself as well. I love it.My favorite scary movie is WATCHER IN THE WOODS. Old school, but creepy. Happy Halloween.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Wow that Dial Mill is certainly horrifically inspiring. I'm planning a ghost-hunting road trip to the Waverly Hills Sanitorium in Kentucky next year. the scariest place I have been is Bachlor Grove Cemetery near Chicago. I couldn't bring myself to go past the No trespassing sign.
Happy Halloween HopMy favourite scary movie is Aliens. I didn't get dressed up this year but is I had I was going to be a Zombie.I hope you had a great halloween
Thank you for visiting my blog and I'm thoroughly enjoying yours. Great pictures of abandonment and it gives such a forlorn feeling. It's must have been really spooky to see it in the real. May you find your concentration for na mo writing. That's a lot of writing. Manzanita@Wannabuyaduck
Thanks for your comment on my blog. These are creepy pictures. Scariest place for me…hmm, I guess it'd have to be the subway. =)

Great pictures!Good luck with NaNoWriMo! I'll be sure to buddy you once the site's back up–they're doing maintenance now, apparently.
That doll's head was pretty creepy – looked like it was a scene from a scary movie. Good luck with your writing!
Woah, that place looks really cool. You know me with the love for scary stuff and ghost. What's also scary is seeing your car needing a wash. I'll take care of that this weekend.
Added you as NaNo buddy and love the mill photos.
Having lived in eastern Kentucky for about ten years before moving on over to Louisville, there'd be all sorts of abandoned houses and such if we went for a walk in the woods. One house had dinner plates, silverware, and all UNTOUCHED and dust covering them for years. Spooooky. Love your post as always!
I cannot believe I neglected to respond to the comments on this post. My apologies to everyone, but I believe I did visit your blog in return. I hope. If not, please let me know. REALLY appreciate you dropping in!
