Blogging Basics: Giveaways Are Annoying But Effective When Done Right–CLOSED

Apr, 8, 2012 by

Welcome back for part 7 of the Blogging Basics Series!

If you haven’t subscribed to my blog to keep up with this series, you absolutely should. I will be devoting the entire month of April to sharing blogging tips and insights from A-Z based on my personal experiences, blunders, failures, and successes.  Above my smiley avatar to the right are great ways to connect with me, or if you look to the bottom right of this page near your toolbar, you can click the follow button there. Now on to today’s topic:

G is for Giveaways Are Annoying But Effective When Done Right

Giveaways-don't-have-to-suck

Longtime readers of my blog know I’ve been anti-giveaway in the past, because giveaways are annoying when the giver is giving away stupid stuff like furniture wipes or teething rings, and there are 50 cumbersome steps required to enter. I have since relaxed my stance a little, and I will concede there are a few benefits of doing awesome infrequent giveaways.

Here are the major benefits of giveaways:

  • If you have a good giveaway going with a nice prize (like a $100 visa giftcard, jewelry, shoes, Apple products, you’ll drive a good bit of traffic to your blog.
  • Out of the people who enter the giveaway, at least a small percentage will be engaged readers at some point. Many won’t, but you will be exposing your blog to new readers, and this is great from a marketing standpoint. With blogs, the more eyes the better.

Giveaways are less annoying if done properly. Here are a few ways not to suck at them:

  • Give away only cool stuff like money, giftcards, and nice merchandise. The only giveaways I’ll concede to doing are ones where I give away stuff that I’d be happy to win.
  • Make sure to only require a few easy steps. Rafflecopter makes me cringe, but it is an extremely easy way to facilitate an awesome giveaway.

If you’re not familiar with how giveaways work, consider this post a handy demonstration. The photo above will be featured on my homepage for my actual giveaway, and I’m setting up Rafflecopter just below this post to accept entries. This is NOT a mock giveaway. It is a real giveaway, and I encourage you to enter to win the $100 Visa giftcard, because the steps are super simple and not annoying. YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL STEPS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO WIN.

  1. Wasn’t really sure what to put in the space under Subscribing to your blog – ended up just putting my email address in there. I think that I don’t quite have the hang of Rafflecopter yet – but, since I just finally started tweeting, this is not shocking. :-)

  2. Oh… and I did do all the steps. I’ve used Rafflecopter a few times – not really sure about it all of the time, but I’m imagining that it is easier to use for the person doing the giveaways than it is for them to have to try and pick a random commenter.

I like gift cards, books that I’m interested in, electronics, beauty products, etc. I don’t really dislike any particular giveaways, I just don’t enter ones that I’m not interested in the product.

    • Cynthia, I like this, because it would be unfair just to pick a random comment to win. It seems like a no-cheat system for me.

  3. Michelle H.

I did all the steps. The ones I like the least are the Rafflecopter; it makes it so much easier to enter and I love that it now remembers all my entries.  My favorite giveaways are prize packages; it’s so much fun to get a load of loot in the mail instead of bills.  Gift cards always rock too!

  4. Hilary Lesch

I did all the steps, as asked.  I’m not a fan of Rafflecopter giveaways because it always asks you to log-in using Facebook or email, BUT it does make choosing a winner MUCH easier on the blogger.  I have used Rafflecopter for most of my giveaways on Novel d’Tales and it went…alright.  I have a hard time getting people to use them because they don’t like having to link it with Facebook.  The giveaways that annoy me the least are ones that (like you said) are worthwhile, short, don’t have me doing 800 things to win one tiny little prize, ones that don’t have me going to 800 different places for one giveaway…so yeah, simple. heh. :)

  5. You’re making the giveaway I have planned look pathetic, but I’m so glad that you’re doing this one! Great idea, Amberr.

  6. Forgot to say that I have done all the steps. Woot!

  7. RaiscaraAvalon

You know I did all the steps! Random giveaways of random items annoy me. If it’s money/gift cards or follows the theme of the blog, that’s one thing. But just “here’s some random stuff” and they’re serious about it…yeah, not entering. But cool stuff? Sure. And I hate when I have to sign here, do this, give up my first born etc. What happened to the comment and pow? Yours wasn’t bad. :)

  8. I did all the steps.

Also, I’m not annoyed by giveaways as you seem to be.  It’s unfortunate that Rafflecopter bothers you, but as someone who both hosts and enters giveaways it’s a vast improvement over regular blog entries.  You log in automatically and do what you need/want to do to enter and move on.  Fast and easy.

    • Beth, I’ve relaxed a good bit on the Rafflecopter thing, because it’s just so beautifully easy to integrate into my post and accomplish the ends I need. My annoyance comes with giveaways requiring a lot of work to try to win a stupid, useless trinket. It usually involves following several blogs–many of which I probably wouldn’t have much interest in. Thanks for your awesome comment!

  9. Mary Kirkland

I did all the steps. I love blog contests, I enter a bizillion of them each week and win fairly often. The ones that annoy me the least are the easy to enter ones. If there’s one where you have to go and like 50 other blogs on fb and twitter *And I’ve seen a few do that* I will pass those up as they are just too much trouble.

    • Mary, you just have a lucky touch. I’m actually co-sponsoring one of those mega giveaways that have many, many steps.

  10. This is an ‘easy to enter’ giveaway? Honestly, I would have given up except for the fact I was testing it out for ease of use.

    • Oh, Ciara, take a look at this giveaway, and tell me mine is difficult. This is a multi-blogger blogging giveaway I’m a sponsor for, but I’m not hosting it on this blog. I just get to reap some of the traffic benefits. This one is what I would call a mega giveaway event:
      http://www.voiceboks.com/community/pages/mothers-day-bash

      • Not a FREAKING chance. I was already going ‘what the hell’ and I wasn’t even halfway through the list! I gave up raeding it and just skimmed to see how long the list of required actions is. I would enter this competition over my dead body. Or maybe for a million dollars, and then only if 100,000 other people hadn’t already entered it! Some people clearly have WAY too much time!

  11. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention which kind of giveaways annoy me least. I don’t enter many so it’s difficult to comment, but I would probably set my maximum at 3 steps, and they better not require me to open an extra 3 webpages and sign in to 3 new sites.

    • Ciara, as always, love the feedback. 3 would be nice and easy, and it would still satisfy most of what I’m going for with giveaways–traffic to my site. Thank you, beautiful!

  12. I did all the steps. The ones that annoy me the least are the ones like this one. A few steps, signing up for an interesting blog with a contest as a bonus is a pleasure.  I hate when theres a multiple blogger contest & you have to sign up for multiple facebook, twitter, google+, pinterest, stumble upon, etc., etc, accounts & all their emails & rss feeds, tweet 3X daily & they go on for 45 days or more to boot!!! I did one or two & now when I see those ..I just close the page & ignore them. I refuse to go through all that anymore.

  13. Lottie Nevin

Easy as pie. That’s a great prize Amberr! I’m unfamiliar with giveaways and this is the first time that I’ve ever done via a blog.  If they are all as simple as this one then I can’t see a problem.

  14. Deb

As a new blogger I’m always thrilled to see a series like this.  Very helpful!  I’m not as bothered by giveaways as the bloggers that require you go through twenty steps just to post a comment.  I just give up, and that’s a shame because every blogger truly wants comments from people that aren’t trying to pimp back pain medication or enhancement products ;)

    • Deb, it is really unfortunate. People want things simple–if you can keep things uncomplicated you’ll usually get what you are going for.

  15. I love this series Amberr. Maybe when you’re done, you could put them all in a little booklet and make it a giveaway. I’d definitely participate to try and win it.

  16. I still steer clear of giveaways. More annoying than useful, esp cos I don’t live in the States.

    • Damyanti, I understand that. I do hope you entered this one, because it is a worldwide giveaway. Even if the giftcard didn’t work, I’d substitute with Paypal cash payment so nobody is ever excluded.

  17. I hope being your spouse doesn’t disqualify me from the drawing. The giveaways that annoy me the most are the ones that spam me to death. No bueno in trying to unsubscribe yourself to a bunch of spam emails.

    • KP, you aren’t disqualified. The good thing about Rafflecopter is that everything is fair and done through the system. No cheats allowed, and I wouldn’t do that to my readers anyway, you know. :-)

  18. CHRISTINE SMITH

I did all the steps.  Giveaways I dislike most are the same ones you mentioned – loads of steps just for a small trinket or some such.  - aunty kissy

  19. I’ve never done a give-away. But then, I’ve only been blogging for maybe two months. A give-away seems a bit of an investment… not sure I’m ready for that yet. How soon do you suggest beginners start handing out prizes like this? Is it something I should already be considering?

Excellent info — as are all your posts in this series. Thank you, doll! :)

I did all the steps you asked..although I’m not bothered by giveaways, I’m more interested in the content on your blog and interacting with fellow bloggers.

I suppose if I had to go for something least annoying, just a simple ‘names in a hat’ type draw would be less annoying than jumping through hoops. :-)

    • Maria, thanks for the awesome feedback. If you see this response, please come back and give me your blog address so I can return the comment love. :-)

    Hi Amberr,
You know I’m your supporter, following you on Twitter, FB and your blog via e-mail. Just to let you know, I tweeted your Giveaway (which was excellent, by the way) under these hashtags: #amwriting  #writer #writing #author #blog #blogger (6X) If I can think of other hastags to use, I will. I.love the idea of a worthy prize…have been on other giveaways…and received books. Yours is awesome and show that you are serious about driving mega traffic to your site. It should. Thanks for the tips. I gave away a new weight watchers cookbook when I first started to blog. It was OK. But that was before Rafflecopter, which I love, personally.

Anyway, always a pleasure to to connect and share. Hope you had a lovely Easter with your family as did I.

    Ciao for now,
    Carole

  22. Judahkat9

I did think of another hashtag…don’t know how good it is:  #authoress. lolol

  23. I have to weigh in on the giveaway.  I know for a fact that not all my blog fans are on Twitter and Facebook.  They are not involved in social media in any way but they read my blog, subscribe to my newsletter and participate in online forums relating to my industry (digital scrapbooking).  I personally would never hold a giveaway that requires the use of social media because it immediately disqualifies some of my fans… and makes them mad. I know this from experience because a few were vocal enough to let me know on my old blogger blog.  I was thankful for that because they could have just left mad. The tweeting, liking and sharing are obviously of benefit to us as bloggers but we will be sucking at giveaway as you say, if we are ticking people off.  I think social media entries should always be optional and count as “bonus” entries while things like subscribing to the blog or signing up for the newsletter should be the main entries.  Then it’s a win win.

  24. Debbie

I performed all of the steps you asked me to do via raptoflactor. I prefer these to the contests where you hsve to like on facebook, then remark and let them know then you hsve to follow them on twitter and let them know. then you have to like some other site on facebook and let them know, etc.  I’m sorry but I much prefer this way better.

  25. I entered and did all the steps :) . Great series of blogging tips. How are you going to fill all the letters??? Hehe. The most annoying are the ones that have a billion steps, though most of them are not required. Also, the ones that don’t tell you where the winner will be posted. I hate hunting for winners. Tks for giveaway!

  26. Since we work in Online Marketing, we see a TON of free giveaways and most of them are not done with very much zest! But, when we find one that we really like, we try to take note about what they did! This rafflecopter system is pretty cool. Will have to look into implementing it for one of our sites! Thanks!

  27. JessieC

I did all the steps. I like giveaways that keep the rule simple, just like this one.

  28. mandy83

I did all the steps :) I hate when blogs get together and do a big giveaway and theres a million entries. Its frustrating and the odds of winning are really bad. Thank you for the giveaway!

    Amanda sakovitz on rafflecopter

  29. I did all the steps. I like Rafflecopter giveaways.
And I like when the giveaway sponsor actually ships the prize lol

  30. Claudia

I did all the steps , what I don’t like is the captcha when filling out giveaways forms

    tweet link
    https://twitter.com/#!/Dealsfan32/status/189447261367959553

  31. Debbie Clauer

I did all the steps….giveaways annoy me that have toooo many tasks to do.

  32. Katy A

I did all the steps…and the giveaways that annoy me least are the ones that are for a good prize but that have a decent change of actually winning! :)

    Katy M. A.

  33. js2222

    I’ve done all the steps.
the giveaways that annoy me the least are those with fewer entry options. I keep running out of facebook likes and twitter follows, and some giveaways have TONS of them, and the bloggers don’t always follow back on twitter.

  34. Mary Michaud

Did all the steps. I agree that too many or complicated entry options are annoying, but the most annoying are the locked ones when you have to do more than one mandatory entry.

  35. Susan Smith

I did all the steps, The giveaways that annoy me the most is the one where voting for the person for a contest is required.  That should be an option not a requirement.

  36. Mary Happymommy

This kind of rafflecopter form is the best because you only have to tweet once!  I dislike the ones with unlimited tweets, or worse yet, tweets every hour!

  37. I like the giveaways without 2,000 different ways to enter it

  38. courtney b

i hate the giveaways that want you to do a billion things, and don’t leave you the easy buttons to tweet, facebook share.. etc

  39. I did all the steps! Giveaways that allow tweets every hours piss me off lol like anyone has the time to do that! At least I don’t! I think it’s an unfair entry to have that many tweets allowed. Yours was simple and not annoying at all:)

  40. Kerry G.

I did all the steps.  I like giveaways that are easy to enter (not too many entries/options) and that have everything I need to do to enter readily available (love the new rafflecopter giveaways).

  41. I did all the steps.  Giveaways with less entry options and entries that you don’t have to open other windows to research answers annoy me the least.
    KellywcuATyahooDOTcom

  42. So I did all of the steps. I like giveaways where I win. :) Ellen

  43. Glenda

I did all of the steps. Rafflecopter giveaways annoy me least.

  44. AStarrA

Did all the steps :) I like all kinds of giveaways! If it’s something I want or need (I’ve gotten a good bit of food items that has helped the family a lot) I will do any steps to get it and not complain, after all you don’t have to enter or do anything you don’t want to. Like most people now we are struggling and not even living paycheck to paycheck so without all the awesome bloggers doing giveaways my daughter would have had no Christmas for the past two years!

  45. jennifer horn

Followed the steps. The giveaways that annoy me least are the Rafflecopter ones. It makes things so much easier to use than individual comments on giveaways.

  46. Giveaways that annoy me the least are ones w/o rafflecopter…I’m just not a fan of the format.
    bebemiqui82(at)yahoo(dot)com

  47. I like giveaways if they are easy to enter.  I am currently hosting a giveaway on my site with some other bloggers. I have heard that giveaways can increase the number of followers of your blog.  That may be true, but I think my regular followers could care less about the giveaway and would rather just stick to the content.  The giveaway has been a nice learning experience.

  48. i did all 3 steps! I like the giveaways with raffelcopter!

  49. Amberr,

For you, the blogger, what do YOU get out of a giveway? In looking at the steps to enter, I’m wondering how you plan to benefit from this idea.

    Just wondering. :)

    Damond

  50. OMG, i must agree with Benemigui, i too am not a fan of giveaways with out the rafflecopter. I really hate those.

  51. Myspotme

    twitted this today

  52. evans s

I like simple entry giveaways that give each person one chance. I don’t like ones where you have to go to several (I saw one with 100+ entry all done individually) sites to complete the mandatory entries then have to do the bonus entries.

  53. evans s

I did all the steps above, I like the simple entry giveaways.

  54. Dguillen

I entered.  Hate giveaways that require you to spend a great deal of time to enter

  55. Cash and gift card giveaways are least annoying! I love Rafflecopter!

  56. Margaret Smith

    Followed the steps.
The type of giveaways that annoy me the least is one time entry giveaways that are simple to enter.
Thanks so much for this giveaway.

  57. rafflecopter annoy me the least and i did all the steps for entry

  58. Guest

the kind of giveaways that annoy me least are the rafflecopter ones. i hate the comment ones!

  59. Gibergab

i like facebook contests, there easy to enter.

  60. Musicmomof2

The giveaways that require twitter bother me the most because I struggle with twitter and have decided to not try it anymore.

  61. Jhunnozaraga

    i hope ill win :)

  62. Nikki Elkins

Completed the entries. Twitter follows annoy me because I am at my limit and have to constantly unfollow people to follow new people.

  63. Clc

The ones that I like most are Rafflecopter run by a single blog that don’t require liking or following many, many blogs and don’t offer hundreds of entries for a single prize.   I also appreciate it when the links are programmed correctly and comments are right on the Rafflecopter form so it doesn’t need to reload to continue.

  64. addrienne

im doing all the steps above.. annoys me least? i would say 1x entry ..set it and forget it.
going through all the steps of some to like 25 blogs and follow 25 twitter handles..ugh it gets old and you run out of follows.

i like yours ~simple, thank you!

  65. Xivyx

followed all the steps, twitter and pinterest kills me im a facebook person

  66. Kathleen Downes

I followed all of the steps and Rafflecopter giveaways annoy me the least.

  67. Guest

I did all of the steps …I don’t mind following a bunch of Facebook or Twitter accounts when they put them all on one page but I hate when they are separated out into individual entries. I also don’t like GFC or Google Plus or email follows because you have to go to individual pages/sites and sign up and it takes forever!

  68. All steps done. And I love Rafflecopter giveaways…so much easier than individually writing out many comments. If I’m going to enter a giveaway that requires commenting, I prefer fewer entries…or a great prize!

  69. i did everything :)     i like rafflecopter… so long as pinterest isn’t a requirement to get extra entries.  I don’t use it.

  70. Kimberly M

I did all the steps.  The giveaways that annoy me least are the ones that use Rafflecopter or Giveaway Tools. I hate it when I have to type in “I follow…..,  and I like……, and all that stuff. Too much typing. Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great prize. I love cash giveaways because they help so much with the current economy.

  71. kelsweeps

Comment on this post letting me know you did all the steps, and telling me what kind of giveaways annoy you least.

this is fine, but the creators of these contest who want 75 facebook and 75 twitter followers dont understand that I maxed facebook 5000 in 3 1/2 months and  twitters 2000 soon followed…..seriously?..i have to delete followers in order to follow…im just glad your blog contest is an easy one on my nerves!

  72. jane jakins

followed steps, dont understand pintrust so that can be frustrating

  73. Natalie V.

I did everything. The simpler the entry, the better. Your entry requirements didn’t annoy me ;)
When I first started entering giveaways a couple years ago, sometimes I didn’t even understand what the requirement was. Now, I won’t enter giveaways that require me to pat my head, rub my belly, and hop on one foot all at the same time! Thanks for the giveaway!

  74. Krystle Smith

    Did all the steps.

I hate google + ones as you can’t see if your subscribed till you open the page

  75. Nicole W

Did all the entries. The ones that annoy me the least are ones that just require 1 single entry! Sooo nice (and rare) to see those!

  76. Aliya Abdul

I did all the steps!  What annoys me are super long ones (anything over 50 types of entries) and ones that use social networks other then twitter & FB.  Most people have & actually look at twitter & FB but ones like google+, and pintrest are ones I have, but don’t really follow or check.

  77. I like the ones with one entry… but I realize these don’t give you the best odds :-/

  78. Rosans4

I did all the Steps. I like the Rafflecopter the most. The ones that annoy me the most are when you have to put that you follow two to five times at the same site for example like on Facebook #1, Like on Facebook #2. Why have to say it more than once?  Anymore I don’t even look at those

  79. Robyn Galloway

I did all the steps.  I love rafflecopter giveaways and those with few entry methods.  Plus the prize has to be worth my time!

  80. Kim

I did all the mandatory entries and no giveaways annoy me. I love them all!

  81. Jason Crooks

Completed all of the steps.  I like giveaways that are simple without 100′s of steps to complete.  having to follow 100 facebook pages, and twitter accounts for a 25 dollar prize is really annoying.

  82. xmd5

I completed all the entries. I hate giveaways that are either US only or exclude Quebec.

    fwdsd45 @gmail.com

  83. Melanie Johnson

Followed all the steps. And right now, Pinterest contests are annoying me. I have been skipping them since I don’t want 3,907 boards, each one dedicated to a giveaway.

  84. did all the steps.

“what kind of giveaways annoy you least” so I think you’re asking which kind of giveaways we like the most. if so then i like the one’s that are single entry via a form on the website. easy to enter and the least annoying (the worst are those mommy blogs with 20 million different ways to get entries daily).

  85. Kcindyloo

I did all the steps! The kind that annoy me the least don’t require you to complete all of the steps (sorry!), and are for cash or gift cards! Thanks for the giveaway!

  86. Seaburd

I did all the steps . The giveaways that bug me are the ones that last a long long time ..

  87. Lokigsd

I wasn’t able to do all the steps… all I have is a facebook page.
    lokigsd@yahoo.com

  88. Heather

I did all the steps,   Rafflecopter giveaways are the easiest.  So I guess any giveaway item I like offered via rafflecopter.

  89. Hackfook

Giveaways that have a million steps are no fun. I’m new to entering giveaways- so this was nice  :)

  90. I completed all the steps. I get really annoyed with the giveaways that take forever to load with 100′s of steps.

  91. PhyllisAnn vandenBosch

I did all the steps..thanks for the simplicity. I HATE giveaways that make you go to other sites to sign up for things. Not like another contest but join this and then do that…then come back. All the necessary tweet, FB, google+ etc should be right on the original page.

  92. Amanda Nicholson

I think I did all the steps.  I am new at giveaways so hopefully I didn’t miss anything.  Thanks for sharing these tips! My friend and I have a laundry service and are trying to increase traffic to our blog, youtube video, facebook and twitter.   We are supposed to do a giveaway next month so this is a great post for us! Thanks for the post.
    Laundry Care

  93. AmyMccTobin

WHERE, oh where is the book?? Great stuff here Amberr – I’m giving it to my clients.

  94. i have done all the steps

  95. Bonny

    Thanks for a great giveaway!

  96. I have done all the steps!  What giveaways annoy me the least is Rafflecopter Giveaway! :)

  97. Chelsea Saulpaugh

I prefer giveaways that are single entry or only have a few steps. I really don’t like ones that allow daily steps for lots of points because I feel like if I miss a day, I have lost my chance.

  98. I have completed all the steps.  The giveaways with too many ways to enter are last on my list I will still enter but I would enter after entering the giveaways with fewer steps.

  99. I completed all the steps.  The giveaways that are the least annoying:
    1. All the links I need are OBVIOUS.  I hate when they tell me to follow them on something but I can’t figure
out who they are because the links are missing or flat out wrong.  Like when they say follow A2B on   facebook,  but the link is bad, so I have to figure it out myself.  I try searching for A2B on facebook, and eventually figure out that it’s not even A2B, it’s A TO B

    2. If I follow them on twitter, they follow me back.  I only get 2000 follows, and I’m pretty sure that number goes
up when you have more followers.

    3. They don’t say something like “enter the information I need in order to validate your entry”.  How am I
supposed to know that?!!  THEY are the one with the giveaway!  Do they want me to say I follow them with
google reader or do they want my email address????

    4.  The things that they want us to tweet have no grammar or spelling errors in them and they’re for the right
          prize!

    5. Oh yeah – and their tweets are under 140 characters.

If their giveaways are sloppy, then how do I know they’re going to do a better job than that when it’s time to send the prize.

Aren’t you sorry you asked?  :-)

  100. kelley wood

did all the steps. I like the rafflecopter esp when you can enter through facebook :) I hate the contest where you have to hunt down a secret code or something of that nature!

  101. i love giveaways but I don’t like those that still use the comment system. like I need to comment 3 times about liking their FB page because that’s worth 3 entries. Rafflecopter makes it so easy. Also, if an item is only $50 or below, I hate it when there’s just too many steps. But if it’s something I really want, then I don’t mind. :) I have an iPad giveaway on my blog if you’re interested to enter. Mind you, there are a lot of entry options which I personally don’t like but those blogs paid to make the giveaway happen so I guess they deserve to be “liked”. :)

  102. Michelle Ayers

I did all the steps and I love cash, Amazon, or paypal giveaways!

  103. Sarah L

did them all. I like the ones where I win. Duh. Don’t like always to have to do email subscribe. gets too crowded. Like amazon & paypal

  104. Annalisa Linder

I did all the steps. I sweeps all teh time and I hate blog sweeps the most because some people’s blogs freeze up my computer the are so graphics laden. I also hate raffelcopters w/ links to 50 or more sites that have to be individually visited and followed. Life’s too short. Those really turn me off but this one was a refreshing change.

  105. I did everything but like you on face book. Cant do Facebook right now. The giveaways on Rafflecopter are the best and I’m not at all annoyed at your giveaway. At least you did not ask me to like 20 people on facebook, follow 20 people on twitter and +1 20 people on Google plus. BTW Your Blog looks nice.

    • Amberr Meadows

Steve, no worries, I won’t hold FB against you. Thanks for the nice compliment about my blog!

  106. Shannon

I like rafflecopter giveaways just because they are easy and usually clear.

I’m not a big fan of “leave a separate comment for each way you enter” kind of thing, especially when they have captcha on. It just fills the comments section and makes it harder to find the meat of the discussions.

    • Amberr Meadows

Shannon, I can see why that would be a pain.

  107. Roxy

i did all the steps. I wouldn’t say there are any giveaways I don’t like, but since I don’t have kids I don’t enter giveaways for children’s items.

  108. For me it’s very simple, but there are many others who still do not understand Rafflecopter

    • Amberr Meadows

Ciprian, it doesn’t seem complicated to me.

  109. I followed all of the steps, and to be honest there aren’t any giveaways that annoy me. I think that they’re fun.
    dsauers7(at)hotmail.com

  110. Tara

    did all the steps!

  111. Meagan

Did all the steps. I like simple giveaways that don’t make you like 50000000 pages on FB.

  112. Darren G

Great post… i hate the giveaways where you go through multiple steps only to find out I’m not eligable because of location or some other dumb reason

  113. Rebecca Shockley

I entered all of the entries and I am kind of 50/50 on the Rafflecopter giveaways
because I like the easy entries, but then when a blogger has a mandatory entry , for ex. follow these on twitter, well Twitter only allows you to follow so many and so having to continuously go through Twitter and stop following so I can follow new ones is annoying, so mandatory entry on Rafflecopter is redundant and therefore shouldn’t be mandatory.

  114. I’ve completed all the steps to enter. My favorite giveaways are usually for tech products or gift cards, I like the Rafflecopter method of entry, click, click and it’s done:)

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  115. Barbara Montag

Yes I did all of the steps – thank you.
Annoy me the least the rafflecopter – I love it!
Annoy me the most – entries where I’m second guessing what I’m to do.
It’s faster and you always know if you’ve entered or not.

  116. I can’t really comment on what kinds of giveaways bug me the least, because this is the first time I’ve ever encountered one. (Gosh, how naive can you get?) I must say that I am intrigued by the idea.

Loving this series! Thanks so much.

  117. Kim

I did all the steps I like the rafflecopter forms they are pretty easy but sometimes I am not sure what they want me to do the only thing that annoys me alot is when they are giving away 1 gift card and there are groups of people to follow like group 1 follow with 25 random people for facebook, twitter, pinterest etc then group 2 and so on it almost seems not worth it

  118. I did all the steps~and I have to agree that the giveaways where all the bloggers get together all the ones I don’t like.I have entered them as they are great prizes but I do them over the course of the giveaway, not all in one day.

  119. randi ross

Steps are done….ones that are quick and doesnt take 3 hours haha

  120. Valerie Taylor Mabrey

did them all and really like rafflecopters the best and love the paypal gifts and gift cards
    vmkids3 at msn dot com

  121. Memento

I did all the steps, madam. :)
And these rafflecopter giveaways? This kind of giveaways annoy me least.

  122. Debra F

I did all the steps in the Rafflecopter. I love Rafflecopter entries — it’s not as annoying as having to enter the same thing over and over and over to get 3 entries. It was terrible when it first came out though as it was always saying a stupid saying and making you do it over and over again. I gave up till they got the kinks worked out. I love any gift card giveaways.
    crochet4hats[at]gmail[dot]com

    • Amberr Meadows

Debra, sounds like I started using Rafflecopter at the right time. Yay!

  123. All the steps done.

    radnjanska@gmail.com

I’m annoyed when i need to like more then 2 facebook pages, like about 30 of them.

    • Amberr Meadows

Dosta, that is way too many FB pages at one time. Eek!

  124. I entered all the require steps. I agree with most of the comments here… keep it simple don’t add to many steps for giveaways. Those definitely annoys me I just pass by and exit from the browser.

  125. Cee

I followed each of the steps. Like many other commenters, I’m not annoyed by giveaways, and appreciate the simplicity of the Rafflecopter device. Overly complicated entry requirements can put me off of entering a giveaway, but if the requirements are laid out bullet-point style or using Rafflecopter, I’m more apt to enter. Thanks for this giveaway!

    • Amberr Meadows

Thank you for the input, Cee! Much appreciated!

  126. mai

ok all steps completed. what i don’t like about giveaways are when they make you like 35 people on facebook and twitter with rafflecopter. It’s so time consuming. :(

    • Amberr Meadows

Mai, I can only imagine how time consuming it really is. What a headache.

  127. Fernanda Terreri

I followed all the steps: “like”, subscribe, tweet, follow on twitter and now the comment here. The kind of giveaways that annoys me more is the one you have to write a lot of things and have to open to much links and “like” and “follow” to many people. This one here is great!
    Thanks!

    • Amberr Meadows

Thanks, Fernanda, I’m so glad you liked it!

  128. Amber V

I did all the steps and I don’t like the giveaways where you have to type a lot and click a lot of “like” and “follow”…sometimes it seems like there are a million people for a giveaway.

  129. Mary-Jane Howard

I did the steps & I like giveaways where just a name and email address is needed. thankyou

  130. Brianne Armstrong

Did all the steps! I find Rafflecopters to be OKAY, but the part of the giveaway I hate the most is “follow ALL these on Twitter” (page may take 4346326 years to load)….there has to be a better way! ;) *praying it comes soon*

    • Amberr Meadows

Brianne, I get the feeling Twitter is not popular for giveaway conditions. A lot of people have complained about that part.

  131. Conor S.

Did it! Rafflecopter Paypal cash, Amazon GC, Visa GC or ipad giveaways annoy me the least. Rafflecopter makes it easy! Thanks for the giveaway!

  132. Teresa Moore

I love rafflecopter giveaways, but I do not like when you have to like 25 to 50 pages to be entered. I especially do not like when there is a ton of twitter pages to like because it seems like no one follows you back and I always hit that twitter follower limit.

    • Teresa Moore

And I did all the steps! Thanks for the giveaway.

    • Amberr Meadows

Teresa, I am sure that is annoying. I’d never deal with that crap. Ever.

  133. Catherine Buell

Oh so glad the comments work again. I did all the steps. I’d hate to say any giveaway annoys me the least, because it is a giveaway and it’s something I want that I don’t have. But I won’t enter the ones with a million steps and that require me to like 30 different FB pages. FB is how I keep in contact with many people so it’s very frustrating when all I see are posts by the 30 “likes” I had to do for one giveaway. Multiply that and thats overwhelming. 1 or 2 max likes on FB and a few Twitter follows is fine with me. Thank you for the giveaway and not being complicated :)

    • Amberr Meadows

It is a pleasure, Catherine. Doing this giveaway will surely make someone smile. I know.

    • Amberr Meadows

It is a pleasure, Catherine. Doing this giveaway will surely make someone smile, I know. This makes me happy :-)

  134. BlackAsphodel

I did all the steps. It takes a lot of time and patience to enter the giveaways with a gazillion entry possibilities, but (if I really want the prize offered) I am not annoyed by them. I’m not even bothered by having to sign up to sites I wasn’t a member of before (Chictopia, Stumble Upon, Hellocotton, Delicious etc.) The stuff I don’t like is when the giveaway host makes you sign up to a site via their link and you can’t do that because you already have an account there (Nomorerack is the best example for this). The worst thing is when the rest of the entries are locked until you do sign up via their link. Which won’t happen because by now I would have had to create more than 20 email addresses to sign up to Nomorerack (I have nothing against that site, I signed up for it and have purchased there before all the giveaway hosts started to incorporate it into their giveaways.). XD Apart from this I am not scared to tackle the really long Rafflecopter giveaways. (I entered the Mother’s Day Bash ;) . I “clearly have WAY too much time!” XD)

If I handn’t written this long comment, I would have already forgotten having entered your giveaway, it was that easy. :)

    My e-mail: blackasphodel(at)yahoo(dot)com

    • Amberr Meadows

BlackAshphodel, I guess that means this giveaway was awesome. Hell, the comment you left with some of those steps confused me, too. I can’t do all that kinda stuff. No thanks.

  135. Doreen Lamoureux

I did all but follow on twitter. I need more followers before I can follow anyone else.

  136. Doreen Lamoureux

The giveaways that annoy me the least are none. I love all giveaways. I just roll like that.

    • Amberr Meadows

Dooreen, that’s cool, roll the way that makes you feel good. No worries on the Twitter thing, either.

  137. colleen boudreau

I completed all the steps! :)
The giveaways that annoy me the least are easy ones with only a few quick entries.

    • Amberr Meadows

Colleen, then this one must have been happy time for you :-)

  138. Donna George

I love giveaways. I am a complete junkie. Probably because I won $500 on the very first giveaway I ever did. So now I’m a giveaway whore. I admit it. But I also love reading blogs, and have found a ton of interesting ones by entering giveaways. I like rafflecopter, probably because I don’t have much experience the other way, and can’t imagine having to leave that many blog posts. I don’t like entries that require you to go to another page, comment, then come back with a link. Waste of my time. I don’t mind twitter follows, but I keep reaching my limit and don’t have enough followers to add more. Anyone want to follow me? (@lovernsaver) See, I told you I was a whore. :)

    • Amberr Meadows

Donna, $500 is awesome. You are too funny, too!

  139. Ann Fudge Cluck

I did all the steps. A giveaway that has an incorrect link is aggravating. Especially so if you let them know and they don’t bother to correct the error.

    • Amberr Meadows

Ann, very inconsiderate, and it defeats the purpose of doing the giveaway.

  140. Lisa Suriano

I have no idea how to “tweet”. Hope this doesn’t exclude me from the contest.

    • Amberr Meadows

Don’t worry, Lisa sweetie, you’ll still be in the running. ;-)

  141. Michael W Perkins

Made it easy enough for me to enter all of em without taking all day. What peeves me is when there are 100+ FB likes & half have confirm on em. Wastes too much time.

  142. Erin Pitts

I completed all the steps. I definitely find Rafflecopter giveaways the least annoying.

  143. Misty Hurtado

Thanks for the short giveaway!!….It really annoys me when i have to like 800 FB pages just for 10 dollars!!!

  144. Deanna G.

Did all the steps. The least annoying giveaways are easy entry giveaways. No more than 6 or 7 ways to enter/gain entries.

  145. Joretta Foster

i did everythig. The least annoying giveaways are easy entry giveaways

  146. Amberr Meadows

I think next time I might be leaving Twitter off the roster. A lot of people are not active tweeters, I’ve noticed.

  147. Amberr Meadows

Debbie, thanks for the awesome feedback!

  148. Amberr Meadows

Lisa, I have plans for every letter of the alphabet–except for 2, but I’ll figure it out :-)

  149. Amberr Meadows

Jessie, I’m glad it was nice and easy. Good luck!

  150. Amberr Meadows

Dave, I highly recommend it. It seems to be the preferred method, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be complicated. Bonus!

  151. Amberr Meadows

Amanda, it is a pleasure! It’s making me happy to make others happy, and I appear to be doing just that!

  152. Amberr Meadows

Elena, make no mistake. The prize will always be shipped from this blog!

  153. Amberr Meadows

Debbie, the same things annoy me, too!

  154. Amberr Meadows

    Katy, I can understand that.

  155. Amberr Meadows

    Js, thanks for your feedback!

  156. Amberr Meadows

Mary, I can imagine those are quite the hassle. Did you receive your B&N giftcard yet?

  157. Amberr Meadows

Susan, I gate when there is voting for contests, because it does not necessarily mean the best person wins–it’s a popularity content and seems unfair to me.

  158. Amberr Meadows

Mary, I can’t believe they actually have ones that tweet every hour. Craziness!

  159. Amberr Meadows

Michelle, I wouldn’t even do a giveaway with that many entries.

  160. Amberr Meadows

Courtney, I think giveaways should be easy.

  161. Amberr Meadows

Thanks, Tasha, I am so glad to hear! This is what I was going for!

  162. Amberr Meadows

Kerry, I am seeing why Rafflecopter can be easier than some of the other options given the feedback on this post.

  163. Amberr Meadows

    Kelly, that would be annoying.

  164. Amberr Meadows

No doubt, Ellen, and good luck on this one!

  165. Amberr Meadows

Astarr, I am so glad the blogging community helped save Christmas. Hugs to you!

  166. Amberr Meadows

Jennifer, I think it will be easier to be fair with Rafflecopter.

  167. Amberr Meadows

    Bebemiqui, thanks for weighing in!

  168. Amberr Meadows

Tiffany, I am in agreement. It is a nice way to gain some followers, but I wonder if those new followers actually ever come back and read the content.

  169. Amberr Meadows

Gricelda, the other ones sound too complex and extremely annoying.

  170. Amberr Meadows

    Evans, that is insane!

  171. Amberr Meadows

Dguillen, I wouldn’t want a giveaway to be time consuming, either.

  172. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Anastasia!

  173. Amberr Meadows

    Your welcome, Margaret!

  174. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Tiffany!

  175. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, guest!

  176. Amberr Meadows

Nikki, I can see how this would be problematic for those who do a lot of giveaways.

  177. Amberr Meadows

Clc, then this one was easy, I assume.

  178. Amberr Meadows

    You are welcome, Addrienne!

  179. Amberr Meadows

Xiv, I have become a recent addict of Pinterest, but would not add it as a giveaway stip.

  180. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Kathleen!

  181. Amberr Meadows

    Jessica, sounds very annoying!

  182. Amberr Meadows

    Randi, got it!

  183. Amberr Meadows

    Imagoincrazy, thank you!

  184. Amberr Meadows

Kels, I am so glad too!

  185. Amberr Meadows

    Jane, I know why.

  186. Amberr Meadows

Natalie, LOL! I love how you put that. I’m with you, too!

  187. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Krystle!

  188. Amberr Meadows

    Aliya, what a nightmare!

  189. Amberr Meadows

Jessica, there are always pros and cons, I suppose.

  190. Amberr Meadows

    Rosan, I don’t either.

  191. Amberr Meadows

    Robyn, thank you!

  192. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Kim!

  193. Amberr Meadows

    Jason, simple is better!

  194. Amberr Meadows

    Xm, thank you!

  195. Amberr Meadows

Melanie, what a pain in arse.

  196. Amberr Meadows

Thanks for the feedback, Mr. Disco!

  197. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Heather!

  198. Amberr Meadows

Hackfook, I am glad you liked it! Good luck!

  199. Amberr Meadows

Karli, I hate when things are so slow!

  200. Amberr Meadows

Phyllis, that’s just too much like work.

  201. Amberr Meadows

Amy, I’m going to put one together after the series. :-)

  202. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Kevin!

  203. Amberr Meadows

    Thanks, Bonny!

  204. Amberr Meadows

Chelsea, too much to keep up with, I’d think!

  205. Amberr Meadows

Barbara, I am totally not sorry I asked. Love the great insights and feedback from you. Thank you!!

  206. Amberr Meadows

Congrats, Maria, you are the winner of the giveaway!!
