Europe is known for its culture and history, but where should you go to get the best of the beach and culture? These three destinations give couples cosmopolitan city’s filled with fantastic places to eat, sites to visit and beautiful beaches to explore.
Palma, Majorca
Majorca is one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations, but cosmopolitan capital city Palma is the jewel of Majorca’s crown. With a diverse mix of chic restaurants, bars and eateries, mixed with the beautiful architecture, it is a treat for the eyes and stomach. For al fresco dining head to the tree-lined promenades of Passig d’es Born and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Alternatively visit the renowned Tristan Restaurant that overlooks Palma Bay. A must see on cheap holidays to Majorca is Palma Cathedral, dominating the skyline it dates back to 1601 and is a cultural highlight. Lastly for some beach fun, head down to the outstretching Palma Bay and explore the golden sands, marina local shops.
Vilamoura, Algarve
The Algarve is the most westerly point in Europe and is an exciting cocktail of culture, natural beauty and interesting history. The region is renowned for its incredible coastlines, and as the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea it is an exciting destination for couples to explore. Vilamoura offers a host of exciting activities to try, with six golf courses, horse riding centre and casino all big attractions in the resort. Explore the luxurious side of the island by heading down to the marina, nestled amongst the yachts is the Praira de Marina Bar and is a must visit when on holidays in the Algarve. Take in the beautiful scenery, sunshine and cocktails in the al fresco environment.
Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is one of Europe’s top destinations for a couples break, it offers the highlights of a cultural city break with the pleasures of a beach holiday. Spend time taking in the unique architectural sights created by Antoni Gaudi, with the likes of the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell absolute must sees. Before fully appreciating the works of Picasso’s blue period on display in the Museu de Picasso. Once you’ve had your fill of the culture on offer from your Barcelona holidays, you’ve got miles of sandy beaches to relax on, right on the doorstep. Barcelona beach is a short walk from the famous Las Ramblas strip and offers both somewhere to relax in the sun along with a top range of places to eat local Catalan cuisine. Whilst you’re in Barcelona, finding the best of the local food is a must. The best of traditional local cuisine can be found at Flamant, an art nouveau modernism restaurant, offering Mediterranean and Catalan food delivered as you’d expect on any Barcelonan dinner table.

Beach and culture, excellent combination! Somehow, Barcelona doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t know why, but it seems to be an overcrowded city.
Ingrid, I’d love to go to Barcelona just for the experience and the Cheesecake Factory!
Palma is beautiful – we’ve been a few times, it’s so relaxing x
Stealing mummy’s Mascara,
Palma looks like a supremely relaxing place. I can’t wait until I hi the lottery or write that best seller!
Another great post. I can vouch for Majorca and Barcelona – they are stunning. The Algarve is on my list, and just moved up a few notches!
Jane, you just get around to all kinds of awesome places, don’t you? Not that I’m at all jealous…okay, maybe a little.
Jane, now you have me curious about Algarve, too. I just wish I could see everywhere in the world!
I like to be near water so Vilamoura sounds appealing! I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those destinations really. As long as there’s good food and lots of drink!
Irene,
Being close to the water with delectable eats and tasty drinks is a MUST. Love your style, lady!
Love that tidbit about Barcelona and Spain’s beautiful beaches. So much culture that you might need more than a weekend to conquer it all
Barbara, I’d love to stay for a month!
