Travel: 7 Surprising Reasons Las Vegas Makes a Great Family Vacation
Elle is here with a great travel guest post on 7 surprising reasons Las Vegas makes a great family vacation. Enjoy!

I know what you’re thinking – Las Vegas is known as the world’s center of gambling, nightlife and burlesque, making it the worse possible destination for a family holiday. But you might have to think again! Las Vegas has worked hard to shake off its reputation as Sin City, and the truth is it’s a great place for families with kids to come and enjoy.
Located in the state of Nevada, there’s a lot more to Las Vegas than meets the eye, and your kids will love the amazing sights the city has to offer. Its natural beauty may be hard to seek out under the layers of commercial resorts and casinos, however it does host unrivalled views of the mountains and surrounding deserts.
Vegas is one of the world’s most advanced tourist hot spots, meaning there’s always something to do. And with children this is perfect, because children always need to be kept entertained!
Aquariums always guarantee a great day out, but in Las Vegas you can go one step further at the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Not your average aquarium to say the least. At Shark Reef you can catch a close look of one of the sea’s most vicious predators. With a walk through tunnel in a massive reef complete with a shipwreck, it’s truly a fascinating sight not to miss. The children will love it – and even the adults will enjoy it too!
The Grand Canyon – There are so many trips and tours you can take around the Grand Canyon and children will love exploring this amazing landscape. It’s like one big magical adventure! For extra brownie points you could arrange to explore the area on horse-back, which is always a huge success with kids.
Entertainment doesn’t get much better then the famous Cirque Du Soleil, which shows four family friendly shows, one of them being “Mystere”. All the loveable elements of circus delivered with more artful, brighter and more impressive scenes and effects- a gripping show that will have you glued to your seat in awe. The kids will want to run back in for more as soon as the show is over.
Valley State Park of Fire is Nevada’s oldest state park, covering an enormous 42, 000 acres boasting great sand dunes from the age of dinosaurs – it’s a spectacular place to see. Enjoy a hike amongst the scenic backdrop whilst catching a glimpse of the carvings left by the Petroglyphs, offering a real slice of Nevada’s history.

Freemont Street Experience, Las Vegas
You can’t make a trip to Las Vegas without the Fremont Street Experience – expect enticing visuals and sound effects to sweep you off your feet. 1200 42 inch LED screens turn the street into a technology wonderland, with impressive light shows, it’s an age old crowd pleaser. The parents will appreciate the vintage Las Vegas signs whilst there’s a lot for the kids in the way of animation.
Swimming pools and the hotel resorts are the perfect play-space for children. What kid doesn’t love frolicking in a swimming pool on a hot summer’s day? Lots of the hotels also run clubs for the children during the daytime, which means you can go off and explore other things whilst they do some great, organized activities with other children their own age.
Meet Mac King, one of Vegas’ all-time favorite comedians who never fails to evoke hoards of laughter with his goody and loveable humor. From his oversized plaid suit to his magic tricks, the kids will love him, and the parents will find it hard to resist the urge to laugh along to his pedantic, silly musings.

I agree that Las Vegas can be fun for the kids if you know where to go. Thanks for the recommendations!
Maria, I can’t wait to check it out with my kiddo one day soon!
Maria, thanks to this great guest post, I’ll know what to check out in Vegas!
I agree. I live in Las Vegas and have been here for more than 25 years. I had my daughter here so she is a native Las Vegan and there was always something here to go with the kids.
Lets not forget Circus Circus Hotel, they also have the Adventuredome theme park that’s completely inside. So even if it’s 113F outside you can take the kids there and be cool and comfortable going on the roller coaster and other rides they have there.
Mary,
Thanks for adding the “native” insight and the other great location!
My nephew takes his children to Vegas usually once a year because his wife has family there. They are always talking about how “children friendly” Vegas has become. They find things to do as a whole family nonstop. I have thought it would be fun to take our family there based on them talking about it all the time.
Aaron
Aaron, I can’t wait to get there an experience for myself and the kiddo, of course.
We’ve just had 3 weeks in Vegas with our 15 and 11 year old. They had a great time!! The Adventuredome in circus circus kept them entertained all day for $24 each – bargain!! The free displays on the strip were great – Bellagio fountains, the volcano erupting at the mirage, TI Sirens show was a bit lame! We took them to the Tournament of Kings show where you eat with your hands – it was really good!! And seeing all those drunk women in short skirts and tall shoes had my 15 year old pondering the evils of drink!! Lol
Tracey, I can only imagine. Sounds like fun times though!
