A ‘Must’ Read: Not the Norm F*R*E*E for the Next Two Days on #Amazon

Not the Norm by Becca J. Campbell. Click image to download free!

In a world where you don’t possess superhuman powers, you are the outcast and subject to extermination…

Not the Norm, by  Becca J. Campbell, is set in a futuristic world exactly opposite to our current world. The story seems eerily parallel to the concept of the Euthanasia programme implemented in Nazi Germany during WWII, but with a different twist. The infirm people in this future world are those who don’t possess a special ability or power, and are only “normal humans”. Considered fugitives by the authorities, regular humans and “sub-norms” are hunted down and eliminated.

Eden has a special power she hates to use, and Dake is one of few natural, unaltered humans in existence. When she discovers him snagging breakfast in her kitchen one morning, their lives are immediately interwoven, and together they discover love and share the intrinsic value of pure humanity.

It doesn’t last long, however, and the authorities are on to Dake only a few short months later. When the authorities attack, Eden is forced to draw on her powers to save her man. The story ends with their uncertain future, but Eden  is willing to forfeit everything she has to be with the one she loves–even though he’s “not the norm’.

I really loved  this short story, and I found myself wanting much more. The author assures me we haven’t seen the last of Eden and Dake, so stay tuned!
