Energy efficient lighting is a popular trend to help save money and the environment.

Whether you have just moved into a new home or you simply want to update your existing one, these tips will show you the most energy efficient ways to light your home without compromising on style.

Things to Consider

Lighting is an important part of our home as it not only makes our lives easier on dark nights and mornings but it also adds ambience and sophistication to our homes. Lighting can play a huge role in making your home more eco friendly but it can also help you to create a solid decor theme that is consistent in every room of your home.

Energy Saving Light Bulbs

Not all light bulbs are the same and when choosing light bulbs for your home you will discover a variety of different options on the market. As a homeowner, your main concern will be finding the best eco friendly option for your home without compromising on quality. There is a misconception that when you buy energy saving bulbs, you sacrifice the quality of light but this is not true. An energy saving bulb actually lasts longer than a standard bulb which means you will save money on replacing bulbs in your home.

Lighting Effects

Each room in your house is unique and as a result each room will require a different light effect. When thinking about home lighting, it can help to decide what mood you wish to create in each room. In rooms such as the bedroom and the living area, you will need a number of lighting solutions to meet your requirements. For example, you may want bright lighting when getting ready on dark mornings or night but at times recess lighting or wall lights may are ideal for reading at night. A dimmer switch is perfect for those who want to be able to create the perfect mood lighting at the touch of a button.

Lighting Designs

The lighting solutions you choose to install in your home can make or break it in terms of aesthetics. You can choose simple yet contemporary lighting designs that will instantly update your decor or you can opt for dramatic accent lighting that will become a focal point in the room. You can create stunning rooms with innovative fixtures and fittings with a choice of soft lighting, task lighting or bright pendant lighting depending on your particular needs.

  1. Amberr,

There are times I miss the old days when you just a simple choice of soft or bright – lol

Now they add so many options that buying a light bulb has become something that a person needs a college degree to be able to be informed. I know all of the benefits of the new light bulbs it would be nice though if they could simplify it a little bit.

    • Aaron, me too, but I must confess that energy efficient lights have really saved on our electric bill. It’s so worth it!

  2. I use the energy efficient bulbs now too. I have a floor lamp in the living room that uses a fluorescent bulb and a ceiling fan in the kitchen and bedroom with light fixtures on each one that have a place for 4 bulbs each. I like the ceiling fans that have the light fixtures on them.

And in the bathroom my husband bought me a nice aluminum vanity light fixture that has 5 round bulbs across the top.

    • Mary, sounds beautiful and it’s nice to save money and help the environment.

  3. I use energy efficient bulbs and you’re right … they have come a long way and one no longer compromises on quality with them. I love them … they last forever and give me the kind of light I want. I’m using CFLs right now but I’m hoping that LEDs will improve because they would be an even better Eco-choice. Thanks for these tips!

    • Small footprints, they have come a long way, and the more eco-choice the products I buy, the happier I am.
