All You Need to Know About Buying a New DishwasherChoosing the right dishwasher is easy with the great advice in this post.
Even though sales of dishwashers fall somewhere short of our American cousins, there are still around 40% of households in the UK that own one. For many of us, they’re becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity. In fact, recent studies show that dishwashers often use less water than traditional washing-up by hand. So as well as the effect on the environment, owning one will save you money in the long run.
If you’re in the 60% who haven’t yet taken the plunge but are considering getting one, what should you look for? There are a wide variety of makes and models to choose from, ranging from the very basic through to space age type. However there are three main types and these are:
- Free standing
Free Standing Dishwashers
There are a myriad of free standing dishwashers that come in a variety of load capacities and sizes. These range from small and slim line models built for two people, through to large dishwashers which can take some pretty impressive loads. Modern dishwashers have all sorts of space age features and controls and are things of beauty. Companies such as Bosch and Neff take these to the extreme; however be warned they don’t come cheap. If you’re not too bothered about the overall aesthetics then Beko or Indesit offer some great value for money deals.
Must Have Features
There are certain features that you should be looking out for when purchasing a new dishwasher and one of these is a timer function. This is so that you can take advantage of the off-peak energy tariff. If you choose one with a good energy rating, this will be even better. In addition you should also be looking for a reduced noise feature. This means that when it does come on at night, at least you’ll be able to get some sleep. Finally think about spare parts. Make sure that you can obtain parts for your machine easily.
Integrated and Semi Integrated Dishwashers
These types of dishwasher are ideal for those who are looking for their appliances to blend effortlessly into their kitchen units. Most of these have panels on the outside that match in perfectly with your kitchen so your appliance is hidden from view. Because integrated and semi integrated dishwashers have covered fronts, the controls are normally located on the interior of the dishwasher. This is unlike the free standing variety where the controls are located on the outside.
